In the forest this term

Hello lovely readers! I thought it was about time we shared some of what we have been up to this term, what better way than to start with forest school!? We have been busy Squirrels this term in our forest school, we have been getting up to all kinds of adventures!

Becky became our forest school leader this term and started the sessions with introducing the rules and how to stay safe.

  • We built shelters from tarp and rope and ate snack underneath in the shade.

  • We loved making mud glue to decorate the trees with leaves!

  • We explored using potato peelers and learned how to use them safely to whittle sticks.

  • We built fairy houses using sticks and string and the Fairies left us surprise bags of treasure hanging in the trees to say thank you.

  • We explored leaf printing and mud painting and explored all the fun ways we can use mud! It was very mucky!

  • We made airplanes and men using sticks and found lots of creatures that live in the forest including ants and spiders.

  • We bird watched and spotted different birds in the tree canopy.

  • We really enjoyed listening to the sounds of the forest , we take a moment to lay down on the tarp and notice the way the leaves move, the sounds they make and the way the sun makes them look magical!

We have really enjoyed exploring our surroundings, learning about the creatures we find and using the items we have found in different ways, we have learnt to take risk and manage our own risks as well as how to stay safe in the forest. We will be having a party next week in the forest in celebration of the graduates of 2022, we will continue to run sessions into September and look forward to welcoming new children to the forest space!

Until next time,

Terrie
