Squirrel Lodge at Dementia Cafe'

Community art project 2019

Toward the end of the school year 2019 we started a new adventure! We were invited to two events organized by Oasis Academy and Dementia Cafe'  in the island of Sheppey.
The first event was  The School's Art in the Island Festival, where our children, under the direction of our artist in residence Nadia Perrotta, created new designs of upcycled clothes along with elderly guests of the  Dementia Cafe' and the students of Oasis Academy.  After the creation, our children posed for a professional photo shoot with their creations.

Inspired by an idea of  the fashion journalist Colleen Taylor in collaboration with the visual artist Nadia Perrotta, we created a collection of upcycled fashion designs. Our children directed the whole process from the portfolio research, to the making and the final photo shoot.

Learn about the project and be amazed by our children's confidence, skills and creativity by clicking on this link.

Once Upon a Time in Swale...

Art project 2018.

In 2018, from an idea of our artist in residence Nadia Perrotta, we started a new intergenerational project.
We made new friends working at a series of art projects together with elderly people in care homes.
Our first visit at Woodstock Care Home was all action painting. We danced the krongly-dong song and painted with our feet, hands and very long paint brushes along with the music.
During our second visit, we made funny faces using clay and natural materials. If we needed an inspiration, we just had to look at each others faces and make each other laugh.
See our video page for a snapshot on our third visit!

Because I am

Art exhibition 2018

Because I am, curated by our artist in residence (atelierista), Nadia Perrotta, has been a very successful  exhibition.

The aim of the exhibition was to narrate the children's and educators' learning process, of self discovery as human beings as they find their unique identity and explore the world around them and the one of imagination, expressed through the arts.

We were proud to collaborate to a  unique project by the visual artist Lalita Bailey sponsored by the Department of School of Music and Fine Arts at the University of Kent. The process of the art project has been video documented in a short film by  Nadia Perrotta ( film maker and artist in residence in our atelier). The video has been selected for a major international exhibition Human Rights-EDU by AIAPI - UNESCO.  See video at this link
